" STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) are infections which spread from person to person during intimate sexual contact. STDs have a high percentage of asymptomatic carrier state, making prevention of transmission very difficult. Approximately 30% of men and 70% of women who have STDs have no symptoms at all. Only abstinence from sex, mutual monogomy, or consistent condom use will substantially decrease the risk of acquiring an STD. All sexually active persons should seek medical evaluation for even apparently minor genital tract symptoms or if there may be any possibility that they have an STD."
